Course Title: Choir

Instructor: Kimber Parker

Course Description:  In Broadway Choirs, we will: 

• Perform a variety of choral repertoire from different traditions, time periods, languages, and cultures.

• Learn rhythmic and melodic sight-reading techniques and apply them to exercises and repertoire.

• Learn and perform correct vocal technique to produce a healthy, vibrant choral tone.

• Learn and demonstrate knowledge of musical academic language through reflection, evaluation, and other activities.

• Consider the affective and emotional aspects of music and art and weave these attributes into performance.

Monday, November 20th: Fall Choir Concert @7pm, BMS Cafeteria, Choir Call Time: 6:15pm

Friday-Saturday, February 2-3: MS/HS Honor Choir at St. Helens High School (select students only)

Tuesday, March 6th: Winter Choir Concert @7pm, BMS Cafeteria, Choir Call Time: 6:15pm

Tuesday, May 15th: Middle School District Choir Festival, Forest Grove (Concert Choir only)

Wednesday, May 23rd: Final Choir Concert @ 7pm, SHS Cafeteria, Choir Call Time: 5:45 pm

Scope & Sequence By Term:

 T1: Preparation for Fall Concert (November 20th at 7pm). Students will be able to perform all solfege hand signs and syllables, speak rhythmic passages using rhythm syllables, identify and perform proper singing posture and consider emotional inspiration behind concert pieces.

T2: Preparation for Winter Concert (March 6th at 7pm). Students will be able to sight-read stepwise passages using solfege syllables and hand-signs, read rhythmic passages using rhythm syllables and the number system, compose rhythmic passages that meet assigned criteria, identify and perform proper breathing technique and summarize affective aspects for concert pieces.

T3: Preparation for Spring Concert (May 23rd at 7pm), Concert Choir to MS District Festival (Tuesday, May 15th). Students will be able to sight-read passages with steps and skips, read advanced rhythmic passages using the number system, identify and perform healthy jaw vocal technique and articulate a statement of affective aspects for each piece.
